Dr.
G. Mustafa
Research Interests: Wastewater Treatment, bioremediation, Meta-omics, Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biofuel
My research area focuses on bioremediation of environmental contaminants, including textile dyes and antibiotics. In the realm of bioremediation, my work is centered on unlocking the potential of living organisms to combat environmental contaminants, thereby fostering sustainable solutions for contaminated wastewater. My endeavors include the utilization of innovative bioremediation systems (bacterial and microalgae) for the efficient removal of pollutants from wastewater.
I am also working on high-throughput sequencing, specifically 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, for metagenomics analysis. This approach allows me to unravel intricate microbial community profiles, providing valuable insights into environmental dynamics. Additionally, my focus extends to the metagenomics exploration of the human gut microbiome, contributing to our understanding of its role in health and environmental interactions.
In parallel, my research portfolio includes the exciting realm of bio-jet fuel production from microalgae. By investigating innovative approaches, I aim to contribute to the development of sustainable and renewable sources of aviation fuel, bridging the gap between environmental conservation and energy needs.
My overarching goal is to contribute to a sustainable future through the development and application of innovative environmental solutions by integrating my expertise in molecular biology, bioremediation, metagenomics, and biofuel research. I aim to advance our understanding of environmental processes and pave the way for impactful contributions to the field.
Dr.
Rahul Tanpure
Research Interests: Meta-omics, environmental microbiology, molecular biology, anaerobic digestion, bioremediation, biofuel generation.
My research area mainly focuses on addressing various environmental problems using molecular microbiology and meta-omics (e.g., metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics) approaches. I perform metagenomic analysis using high-throughput sequencing (i.e., 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing) to find microbial community profiles. I also study metatranscriptomics and mass spectrometry-based metaproteomics to identify the microbial transcriptional activity and expressed proteins (i.e., quantitative/qualitative profiling of proteins), respectively. Data integration of omics studies can offer an in-depth sight into the functional dynamics of intricate microbial communities. Findings from the above studies can provide a sustainable way of resolving environmental problems. I am also focussing on the human gut microbiome studies using the metagenomics approach. Moreover, I am investigating the role of functional microbial diversity during anaerobic digestion of organic substrates (e.g., food waste, fats, oil). I am exploring various bioremediation systems (e.g., microalgae, plants) for the effective removal of pollutants from wastewater and contaminated soil.
Dr.
Nikita Yadav
Research Interests: Environmental Biotechnology, Emerging contaminants, Phytoremediation, Phycoremediation, Biofuels, Wastewater treatment.
My research centers on environmental biotechnology, with a primary focus on harnessing natural ecosystems and plant-microbe interactions to combat emerging contaminants in wastewater. Based on key publications, such as our work on synergistic contaminant removal with periphytic biofilms and Iris pseudacorus, and our studies on bisphenol fate and metabolism, I aim to develop sustainable solutions for water pollution. Additionally, ongoing projects explore soil microbiome management for agricultural sustainability, genome engineering for antibiotic phytoremediation, and the phytotoxicity of phenanthrene. We are also uncovering genes responsible for sulfamethoxazole degradation in Arabidopsis thaliana. By bridging fundamental research and practical applications, my goal is to contribute to a greener, more sustainable future through innovative environmental solutions.
Dr.
C. Venkatesh Reddy
Research Interests: Solid waste management, Landfill wastewater treatment, Removal of inorganics from bio-oil, Contaminants of emerging concern.
My research area focuses on leachate treatment through anaerobic reactors, which represents a significant endeavor in addressing environmental challenges associated with landfill wastewater while concurrently harnessing renewable energy in the form of biogas. Based on key publications, one aspect of my research involves the optimal conditions for the anaerobic degradation of pollutants in leachate. Additionally, I am also working on removing inorganic elements from waste-derived bio-oil-sustainable energy sources while addressing environmental and operational challenges associated with inorganic contaminants. I aim to contribute to the development of effective purification methods, improving the quality and suitability of bio-oil for various applications. By bridging fundamental research and practical applications, my goal is to contribute more resilient and sustainable environmental solutions.
